First Waves: Liverpool

"Growing up mixed race in London, I had always been aware of the long history of race relations in Liverpool and was excited to experience the city for myself for the first time. Being able to meet young people at the Bluecoat gallery in Liverpool was a unique opportunity to really see how the Race relation’s acts had impacted upon future generations, in a city with the oldest black community. In many ways this was one of the most challenging workshops to undertake – as the young people had experienced so much direct and violent racism in their short lives. I’m proud of the sensitive and powerful work that we created and curated together."
